Davos 2008

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice addresses the opening session of this year's World Economic Forum in Davos next week. Ms Rice will give a speech on climate change and terrorism on the meeting, which runs from January 23 to 27,
Speaking at a press conference in Geneva, Klaus Schwab, founder of the WEF, outlined the key figures who will be present amongst the 2,500 political, economic and media leaders from 88 countries at the annual five-day meeting in the exclusive Swiss ski resort.
Professor Schwab said: "The Annual Meeting gives all of us a chance to understand and shape the global agenda for the year ahead and beyond, serving global society by making sense of a rapidly changing world and harnessing collaborative innovation to the benefit of us all."
Pakistan President Mr Musharraf will attend the event, now in its 38th year, as part of a nine-day trip which will also see him visiting Belgium, France and the UK.
Those present at the annual meeting also include UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and former Prime Minister Tony Blair, now one of the WEF's vice-presidents.
In total, there will be a further 113 cabinet ministers, along with religious leaders, media kingpins - such as Rupert Murdoch - and heads of non-governmental organisations.

Almost two-thirds of the attendees will be business leaders drawn principally from the Forum's members - made up from 1,000 of the foremost companies from around the world and across all economic sectors. They will include World Trade Organisation Director General Pascal Lamy, along with the head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and European Central Bank chief Jean-Claude Trichet.

Personalities from the cultural world will include the musician Peter Gabriel, the actress Emma Thompson and the Brazilian author
Paul Coelho.(I had written about him here)

Pakistan's foreign ministry confirmed on Wednesday that Mr Musharraf will kick-off his European tour by visiting Brussels on January 20-21 where he will hold talks with Javier Solana, the European Union foreign policy chief.

Mr Musharraf will meet French President Nicolas Sarkozy in France on January 21-22 and, once he has attended the WEF at Davos, he will reach the UK for talks with the Prime Minister on January 26. The visits come as Mr Musharraf is under pressure from the EU and the US to hold free and fair national elections in February following the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto in December. The Annual Meeting 2008 programme will be based on the following five conceptual pillars:
-Business Competing While Collaborating
-Economics and Finance: Addressing Economic Insecurity
-Geopolitics Aligning: Interests across Divides
-Science and Technology: Exploring Nature’s New Frontiers
(With advances in nanotechnologies, genetics andcomputer science in combination with other disciplines,"the extent to which mankind can control and manipulatethe natural world is reaching beyond the comprehension of the general public.")
-Values and Society: Understanding Future Shifts

Concerning the last section they write: "Despite the use of the term “soft power” in the last
decade, most have yet to contemplate the emergence of
a Chinese, Arab or Hindu civilization that would usurp the
dominance of western cultural and economic influence in
the near term.

Though much more international attention is now being
placed on bridging cultural and religious divides, diversity
and migration are becoming contentious issues in a
variety of political settings worldwide....
Annual Meeting programme will explore
various facets of the cultural and normative shifts taking
place today that are emerging
from various regions of the
world."

hello!
I'm a big Paulo Coelho's fan and I don't know if you heard about his blog
http://www.paulocoelhoblog.com
I've started as a fan and now I'm collaborating with him and thought that you would like to enter his universe.
Check the blog.
if you want, or subscribe to his newsletter
http://www.warriorofthelight.com/engl/index.html
You'll see a community of warriors of light sharing ideas, dreams and most importantly following their personal legend.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

The Warrior of Light knows that there are occasional pauses in the struggle.

Have a nice day!

Hi Aart,

thanks for posting at my blog,
- is it now Mr. Crowley's, ups I meant to write Mr. Coelho's job to take care for me here in Europe after the Madrid AoC meeting?
As you will understand me very sceptical here and not a fan of the (never fulfilling, just promising)lightbringer and his initiated writing, worrying warriors and their neverending searches (btw. my own search also went through Spains Sierra Nevada and Ceuta,...until I found JESUS Christ, BUT without initiation, I shell write about it soon), the Lightbringers game is already over (ended before 2000 years at Golgotha). What we see are some last afterlighnings of semingly enlightened anger, but the true dawn is very close. Better enter the universe of Jesus Christ, - it is by far the better investment,
as artifical light does not help here, Aart Hilal.
Your name Hilal meaning also the "brilliant one" surely reflects your ability to come to a wise decision on this question!
I wish you that with all my heart.
Greetings - also to Paul - in the name of Jesus Christ, the true and only light!
