Coelho's book a healer for the Middle east?

Fishburne as "Morpheus" in "Matrix"

"LAURENCE FISHBURNE is set to bring best-selling book THE ALCHEMIST to the big screen - directing and starring in a new Hollywood adaptation.Fishburne has teamed up with movie mogul Harvey Weinstein to get the $60 million project into production.
The tome, by Paul Coelho, which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 67 languages, focuses on the story of a shepherd boy who travels across the Egyptian desert in search of treasure, but meets an alchemist who teaches him the meaning of life.
And Weinstein... says, "It is a book I have been truly inspired by and I have agreed to personally produce it. The Alchemist is simple and spiritual, and the screenplay will reflect that. The book means so much to people on a spiritual level yet there is also a great love story in it. It is an incredibly moving, emotional story.
"I think this story will act as a bridge to the Middle East. In the Middle East, the book has been an overwhelming success. That is a world that we need to know more about an extend a bridge to. This movie could be a healer in that region, bringing the West and the East together, especially the Middle East." Fishburne is set to play the alchemist of the title, and Weinstein is keen to cast Penelope Cruz in his latest project: "One way or another I'm finding a part for Penelope Cruz."
Paul Coelho was present at the AoC-meeting in January and is Ban-Moon appointed "UN-peace envoy", also is he
Member of the Board of the Shimon Peres Center for Peace and UNESCO special counsellor for “Intercultural Dialogues and Spiritual Convergences...more interesting stuff can be found here under "Spirituality":

"for winning hearts"

AoC-Sampaio on a former Portugese Focus cover

Adi Schwartz fromHa'aretz wrote in a report on Sampaio's recent visit in Israel:

"Jorge Sampaio is currently trying to defuse the mine laid 12 years ago by Samuel Huntington.(...)Sampaio, as the United Nations Secretary's High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, has now set out to win hearts in the areas of culture and religion. (...)

Sampaio's mission is not political. On his visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority this week, the UN representative made it clear to his hosts he had no intention of competing with the Quartet or the Security Council, and that he was not charged with participating in negotiations. In Israel, he met with President Shimon Peres, Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog and with several MKs from the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. "To the Israelis I try to make clear that the Alliance is not an anti-Israeli initiative, because every UN organization is perceived here as hostile [to Israel]," he says. "To the Palestinians, I try to show the benefit of cooperative action against extremism, even though, there, too, there isn't a whole lot of faith in another UN representative who comes to the region."

So far, more than 80 countries have joined the Alliance, along with a number of international organizations, such as UNESCO and the Arab League. Two countries are conspicuously absent from the list: Israel and the United States. Israel's basic stance is that past experience teaches that initiatives of this kind, in which an attempt is made to bring Europe and Islam closer together, are too often made at Israel's expense. Sampaio admits that one reason for his present visit to Israel is an attempt to convince the Israeli government to join the Alliance, but the Foreign Ministry said this week Israel was not interested in becoming a member of the Alliance, although it would consider getting involved in specific projects. At least as far as the U.S. is concerned, Sampaio is happy to report that within the past few weeks, Washington decided to join the initiative as an observer.
Asked if he's optimistic about the chance of arriving at an understanding between the civilizations, Sampaio smiles, takes a deep breath and answers: "In the past year, since I was appointed to the post, I've found that there is much interest in the Alliance. There is a clear understanding in large parts of the world that things cannot go on this way. We are allowing the extremists to keep getting stronger. The goal of this Alliance is to create a forum for holding a dialogue. We must prevent radicalization, especially in crisis situations like the crisis of the Mohammed caricatures in Denmark. We've recruited experts from different fields, who will analyze events not with the aim of radicalizing positions, but with the aim of bridging gaps. Far too often we hear statements from politicians and media people that only exacerbate the situation."

Sampaio knows he has no good answer. He speaks softly, befitting an experienced European politician. His eyes - one green and one blue - express a genuine desire to reach a compromise and solution by peaceful means. "I comprehend the threat very well," he says. "I'm not trying with my small team of 10 people to change the world. But we want to appeal to ordinary folks.(...)"

strengthen and reaffirm

before I forget it:
On Barcelona Process and ENP and AoC:
strengthen and reaffirm, strengthen and reaffirm, strengthen and reaffirm, strengthen and reaffirm...just a snippet here:
"...5.14. Intercultural dialogue: We reaffirm the fact that a strengthened EU-Mediterranean partnership must be based on a common progress of the political, economical, social, cultural and human pillars of the Barcelona Process. The first forum of the Alliance of Civilisations held in January 2008 under the auspices of the UN in the presence of Zapatero, Erdogan, Ban Ki Moon and Sampaio reaffirmed the will to work together in order to improve the social and cultural comprehension between populations and to resolve the political conflicts, in the Middle East and elsewhere. The cooperation must put culture at the core of the action. In doing so, the EU must continue to promote the rapprochement of the cultures on both shores of the Mediterranean, in particular through a strengthening of the audiovisual sector as indispensable communication tool..."

AoC goes Holy Land

Members of the Council of the Religious Institutions of the Holy Land (CRIHL) met May 27 with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to talk about the role of religious leaders in resolving the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

The council also met with former President Sampaio, High Commissioner of the U.N. Alliance of Civilizations, who proposed working together with the CRIHL to advance interfaith dialogue....

The council is a new interfaith group constituted of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel; the Supreme Shaaria Courts and Ministry of Waqf of the Palestinian Authority; and the Patriarchates and Bishoprics of the Holy Land, including Anglican Bishop in Jerusalem Suheil Dawani and Lutheran Bishop Mounib Younan.

When the CRIHL was formed in November a common statement declared:
"Towards these ends we are actively working to:...
3. Together reflect on the future of Jerusalem, support the designation of the Old City of Jerusalem as a World Heritage Site, work to secure open access to the Old City for all communities, and seek a common vision for this city which all of us regard as holy..."

the tower of Silah

"Sustainable Strategy in a Name
The name “Silatech” is conceived from the Arabic word "Silah" meaning connection.
Silatech refers in Arabic to “your connection”"
On a Sufisite I found a person named Silah, it says:
"The Prophet predicted his advent in one of his hadith when he said,
"There will be among my nation a man called Silah. By his intercession many people will be saved."
" Many saints predicted his advent. One of them was Shaikh Ahmad al-Jami (q). He said, "After me will appear seventeen men of the People of God, all of whom are named Ahmad and the last one among them will be at the head of the millennium. He is going to be the highest of them and he is going to receive the state of Unveiling. He is going to revive this religion."
The UN High Representative for Human Rights Jorge Sampaio had told the Madrid Forum that Silatech was one of the most “significant” programmes to come out of the two-day gathering leading with “fresh ideas and projects”. “The Forum…has given us renewed hope that if we all unite our efforts we can bring change,” he told the closing session.Sampaio announced a 12-point action plan for the Alliance of Civilizations, which was headed by Silatech.
Silatech, along with the Financial Times of London,
will be hosting a summit in Doha on June 1 and 2 (in the Ritz-Hotel, which really looks like a tower, see here) to spur into action and receive commitments from regional and global leaders on the issue of youth employment.
Silatech is an initiative of H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned .
A number of partners dedicated to youth issues are coming together including Cisco Systems, the World Bank Global Partnership for Youth Investment, ImagineNations Group, Mercy Corps, the Alliance of Civilizations and the International Labor Organization. Others will be announced in the coming months.
"Taking part in the ‘Doha Summit on Young People and Employment in the Arab World' will be leaders from the private and public sectors and civil society.
Silatech was established in 2007 with a $100m private contribution from H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir, and Sheikha Mozah. The Summit will have several announcements over the two days covering additional partnerships, support, ventures and several agreements by partner firms, foundations, individuals, commercial banks and governments. The end-goal is to improve work opportunities for young people.

Silatech was officially unveiled in Madrid at the ‘Annual Forum for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations' which was held on January 15 and 16 last year." LINK (thepeninsulagatar)

During the summit, Silatech will present its strategy and hold discussions on its action plan. It will also unveil the six pilot countries where the initiative will commence. Announcements will also be made regarding the Silatech governing board and a number of substantial commitments by partner organisations. LINK(Dohar Times)

Solana goes Nano

"Nanotechnology part of European Defence Agency's new Disruptive Defence Technologies program
"European governments agreed today to establish a new Joint Investment Programme (JIP) for research into emerging technologies which might have a disruptive effect on the battlefield, using an innovative structure devised by the European Defence Agency (EDA) to boost collaborative European efforts on defence Research & Technology.
A ministerial meeting of the EDA’s Steering Board approved the new two-year programme, building on the experience from first JIP launched in 2006 which focuses on the protection of armed forces. 11 European countries will contribute to the new initiative, which will be funded by a common budget of €15.5 million.
"I am delighted to see that this new way of collaborating in a more integrated and efficient way has proved its worth and is being repeated,” said Javier Solana, the Head of the Agency, who chaired the meeting of defence ministers. “Investing more in Defence R&T and spending more together will be achieved only through this kind of pragmatic approach.".
European Defence Agency Chief Executive Alexander Weis told a press conference that there were three main technology clusters.
He gave the following examples:
Cluster A – integrated navigational architecture (providing back-up if GPS is not available).
Cluster B – using nanotechnologies to create more ergonomic equipment for soldiers (eg aiding night vision) or to come up with solutions to reduce the weight and size of power sources.
Cluster C – remote detection of hidden items such as improvised explosives devices.
About EDA
The European Defence Agency (EDA) was established by the Council on 12 July 2004. It is designed "to support the Council and the Member States in their effort to improve European defence capabilities in the field of crisis management and to sustain the ESDP as it stands now and develops in the future".
The EDA is an Agency of the European Union. High Representative Solana is Head of the Agency, chairman of the Steering Board, which acts under the Council's authority and within the framework of guidelines issued by the Council.

"Established in 2004, Connecting Cultures is a unique educational initiative that promotes face to face dialogue with young people from the western and Arab world via short wilderness journeys.

The aim of this dialogue is to celebrate cultural diversity, break down stereotypes, identify shared values and in so doing promote understanding and help reduce the polarisation of cultures.

Based in the Sultanate of Oman, Connecting Cultures works in partnership with governmental, corporate and charitable sectors. It is endorsed by UNESCO and works to support the key aims of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations. DHL are the main corporate sponsors of the Connecting Cultures programme.

WE LIVE in a world full of diversity and rich cultural history,
but also one of conflict and bigotry towards the unknown and misunderstood.

What has been shown time and time again is that through our youth, political and religious tensions can be absolved and forgotten, allowing new generations to embrace differences that were all but dismissed by their predecessors.

Khalfan Hassan Al Matrooshi and Khalid Salem Al Muhairi, two Emirati university students, leapt at the chance to expand their universal knowledge when the opportunity arose. Chosen to participate in cultural retreat programme by their school instructors, the two young men embarked on a journey to the Omani wilderness where they confronted important issues facing the world today. Joined by 15 other students from around the world, the group found solace in the mountains realising that their similarities truly outweighed their differences.

“I think the main reason we were chosen was for our high grade point average, bilingual abilities in English and Arabic, and because we represent out country well,” Al Muhairi says...The boys recall reactions from non-Muslim students during prayer time, in which they were watched with fascination as they prostrated during the five required prayers throughout the day.

“While we prayed, the other students would watch us. Afterwards they asked many questions and were excited to know about our routines, religion, and life,” Al Muhairi describes.

may 22: the dialogue night of the crystal skull

12 stars rotating around the center, Kylie Minogue kissing the skull, photo: BornRich2007

A center and around 12 power points getting their power from that very center, I had dreamed this picture already in 1992. Last week I felt the presence of this picture very much.
Then I found the crystal skulls and it's connection to the "twelve around one" and also to May 22, the Habsburgs, Mme Blavatsky, the NINE and even to our recently detected Heinrich Elijah Benedikt and the EU.

On 2008 May 22 The new Indiana Jones film is going to take the Crystal Skulls to the mainstream. And just in time too.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull starts May 22
(click picture for enlargment)

There are many theories as to what the Crystal Skulls represent, where they came from and what they're for (imported from Atlantis? Meticulously carved by the Mayans? Gifts from an extraterrestrial civilisation? Our future & past encoded within them? Symbols of doom or hope?)
It's been said that when the 13 of them are united, it will herald a mass global transformation...(a planetary Ascension?) but this can only occur when humanity can co-operate with each other. The symbolic gathering of the crystal skulls is not only a metaphor, it's a literal sign. That's why they were deliberately hidden in various places around the world, & made their way to different territories amongst different-speaking people. Allegedly Egos will need to be transcended & boundaries crossed for this 'crystal meeting' to take place...and then there is another possibility to spend the evening on May 22:

From the Euromed-Anna-Lindh-foundation site site:

"On the evening of Thursday 22nd of May 2008, groups and individuals in thirty-seven countries will unite together in a unique common event for the promotion of dialogue and coexistence. The Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue Night is a unique cultural event held simultaneously across the 37 Euro-Mediterranean partner countries developed by the Anna Lindh Foundation, its Network and partners including Ministries of Culture, the European Commission and COPPEM network of regional and local authorities. The event has been planned to take place exactly one week before the first meeting of Euro-Mediterranean Ministers of Culture to be held in Athens Greece in order to present the reaults of the Night to the Ministers.."

back to the skulls:

Indiana Jones Producer Frank Marshall has confirmed that the new film is set in 1957, Indiana Jones is battles agents of the Soviet Union for the crystal skull. "The theory is they are shaped by higher powers or alien powers or came from another world, or an ancient Mayan civilization had the powers," Marshall explains...The artifact of the title is inspired by real quartz sculptures of disputed origins that are carved in a way that defies the natural structure of the crystal.

The crystal skulls are a number of human skull models fashioned from blocks of clear or milky quartz crystal rock, claimed to be pre-Columbian Mesoamerica artefacts by their alleged 'finders'. Contemporary mainstream scientific opinion is that the skulls are instead of recent European manufacture.(sic) None of the specimens made available for scientific study have been authenticated as genuinely pre-Columbian in origin.

The skulls are often claimed to exhibit paranormal phenomena by some members of the NEW AGE movement, and have often been portrayed as such in fiction. People who believe in the psychic power of crystal skulls say that the skulls are a center of radiant psychic energy and have the power to increase happiness and improve people's lives just by being held, handled and spoken with; others have suggested that crystal skulls can be used like crystal balls, to aid divination.

George Lucas: "Indiana Jones aren’t action movies. They’re primarily mysteries with a supernatural object. So it’s kind of like X-Files. X-Files came out of this idea—instead of taking archaeological objects, they took Bigfoot and aliens and psychological mythology instead of the physical—but it amounts to the same thing.
It amounts to a belief in the supernatural.

George Lucas links to Crowley

An episode of the television series Stargate SG-1 dealt with crystal skulls, in which the crystal skull was an artifact left behind from an ancient alien civilization that transported people between earth and the homeworld of the ancient aliens that created the skull. It also allowed people to be sent to another dimension (out of phase) when the teleportation was interrupted before it was finished. A novel, "City of the Gods" by Sonny Whitelaw, expanded upon this theme.

The collectible card game Illuminati: New World Order has a card for the Crystal Skull.

An investigation carried out by the Smithsonian Institution in 1992 on a crystal skull provided by an anonymous source who claimed to have purchased it in Mexico City in 1960 and that it was of Aztec origin concluded that it, too, was made in recent years. According to the Smithsonian, Boban acquired the crystal skulls he sold from sources in Germany; findings that are in keeping with those of the British Museum.
The first Mexican crystal skulls made their debut just before the 1863 French intervention, when Louis Napoleon's army invaded the country and installed Maximilian von Habsburg of Austria as emperor of Mexico.

New Age page writes:
"In the attainable area of the universe there are 12 planets with intelligent inhabitants. One of it was/is also the earth. But the earth was not a good developed planet and became soon clear to the other peoples that it would come by the environmental pollution and wars of the separate governments soon to a disaster which will destroy the people. Therefore every people stored their knowledge in crystals which they had formed to skulls. Then these were brought on the earth, so that the people could take the knowledge in themselves and could escape before the threatening disaster. Then the other peoples disappeared again." and:

and other magic systems might be confessed so–called Seven Bänder, colors, frequency or dimensions (seven rays). These describe the physical reality which are also represented by the 7 Chakren–system. These are coined in the meantime, so that we now also with Earth–u. In this respect works mayan nummerologie on our planetares system covered with Thirteen Parts, frequency, dimensions – or mayan or Egyptian expressed "Sound u. To sounds".

The Indian mythology speaks from 12 races, from the cosmos on the earth came (12+1) and one skull for the contact with the home brought. Also the Christian tradition speaks in the old person Testament of 12 human prhistoric races. If one believes the assertions so-called crystal skull expert, some skulls are extraterrestrial and a whole row are earth creations or imitations. Maya cosmic "race" considers (Maya = illusion), have no direct home planet, but claim himself "from the space–time outside" to come. As well as the Atzteken have "disappeared" Maya not so simply from the planet earth " both have concluded the collective ascent already successfully as a people. The skulls as well as the mayanische calendar "Tzolkin" are earth aids to the communication about the borders of space and Time out.

The Maya calendar end 21.Dec.2012.
Between 2008, May 22 and 2012, December 21 it is 240 weeks or 55 months.

One of their Maya pages writes:
"Dante, Bernard Shaw & Alice Bailey had highlighted in their writings that a World Government is the only solution to achieve permanent World Peace. Mahesh Yogi inaugurated the World Government in 1975 in Seelisberg, Switzerland ( " In response to the call of time, a global organisation has been structured, the non-political, the non-religious World Government which has the knowledge and expertise to create an ideal society" ). Foster Bailey, the husband of Alice Bailey, said that " Free Masonry is the descendent of a United World Religion, a divinely imparted Religion. Then came separativeness and religions. Now we are striving for a United World Order" There is also a move to create a World Stock Market & to control all governments in the world. The foundations behind the United Nations are spiritual. The Global Oneness Movement is gaining momentum and a Council of Global Governance has been constituted with Maurice Strong as the President. ..
Global Oneness alone can save the world. Globalists alone can bring a planetary transformation and not those who champion the cause of a Nation or a Civilisation. Some prominent globalists are Jeremy Rifkin, Norman Cousins, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, John Denver, George Lucas, Norman Lear, Alice Bailey, Alvin Toffler, Dr. Barbara Ray, Benjamin Creme, Levi Dowling, George Trevelyan, Fritjof Capra, Abraham Maslow, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Ruth Montgomery, Shirley MacLaine, J.Z. Knight, Marilyn Ferguson, David Spangler, Nelson Mandela & Gorbachev."
They end with the Luciferian Great invocation(sic):

The symbols are simple, but the rules do tend to vary somewhat. This design, "Sobek, god of a city called Crocodilopolis" (Lionel Casson, "Ancient Egypt", pg. 73), has strong elements of both magick mirrors and oracular skulls and points in the direction of both the magnetic magick mirror technology and the Egyptian and Vedic "mystical" Solar sciene for further clues as to their construction and operation.

The Crystal Skull of Lubatuun is also described repeatedly as having properties like a magic mirror or counter magnetic amplifier device , that is, it seems to display images across space and time, and may be something of a bridge between the two classifications. It's often reported that the skull shows strange, ancient scenes along with other similar phenomena.

Members of the Spanish government, that is former Prime Minister Felipe González, as well as the theologian Leonardo Boff are represented in the executive committee and in the advisor staff of the socalled Fundación Atman para el Diálogo entre Civilizaciones.
The Fundación Atman organized a high-ranking conference in Madrid, at the end of of October 2005, about Alianza de civilizaciones, - alliance of the civilizations.
Leonard Boff, Boff is to be found here also. He comes from Brazilian Theology of Liberation and is concerned in the last years on "new spirituality". He teaches that human will discover the mirror-image-ritual dimension as objective dimension of the cosmos”.

skulls, Crystals, Mexico, Superman...ever heard of the Fortress of Solitude, Supermans refugium?

And then there are those, who want to mix the Jewish or Christian heritage with this NEW AGE hogwash, for example:
Stuart Wilson was born in Exmouth in the West of England. He came from a conventional background and went to a Scottish public school (Fettes in Edin-burgh). However his mother was fascinated by theosophy and the writings of Alice Bailey, and this led to Stuart's lifelong interest in esoteric teachings and the Eastern and Western wisdom traditions. The writer moved in 1990 to help his friend Joanna Prentis with the development of the Starlight Centre in mid-Devon. He writes of this period: "It was inspiring and fascinating but also exhausting! A stream of visitors came in to the Centre, mainly from the United States and Australia, but some also from Europe. We had an amazing and mind-expanding time sitting at the feet of internationally respected spiritual teachers and workshop leaders. What I remember most about this time was the big gatherings when our friends came in to share a meal and talk about our experiences and all the changes that were happening in our lives. It was a wonderful time, full of joy and laughter, and the special events, like Anna Mitchell Hedges sharing her crystal skull, and the two fire-walks led by Esassani, were simply magical!"...

They openly play with an false Christ image:

Queen Elisabeth praises Turkey for AoC

"ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Queen Elizabeth II praised Turkey's role as a bridge between the West and the Islamic world on Tuesday during her first visit to the predominantly Muslim country in 37 years.
"For us, Turkey is as important now as it has ever been," the British monarch said at a state banquet. "Turkey is uniquely positioned as a bridge between East and West at a crucial time for the European Union and the world in general."
Wearing a tiara and dressed in a white gown decorated with beads, the queen said Turkey is "playing a key role in promoting peace, political stability and economic development in some of the world's most unsettled areas."
She referred to the Alliance of Civilizations initiative, a U.N.-backed project — co-sponsored by Turkey and Spain — aiming to increase dialogue between Western and non-Western cultures and to address the causes of conflict between them..."

the new model army

During the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Slovenia, in cooperation with the European Commission, the European
Cultural Foundation, and the foreign ministries of Austria and the Netherlands, organisedthe international conference New Paradigms, New Models – Culture in the EU
External Relations.
The conference represents the follow-up to similar events that
focused on culture in a
globalising world
, deriving from the European Commission Communication on a
agenda for culture in a globalising world
(10 May 2007) where the culture is outlined as a vital element of the EU external relations at the strategic level.
The conference will gather participants from the EU and neighbouring regions – the
Western Balkans, the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe – who will discuss effective
integration of culture into the EU external relations.

The conference was attended by distinguished guests, including

EU Foreign Commissioner Ferreo-Waldner, Ex-EU-AntiTerror-Zar Gijs van Vries

Slovenian Foreign Minister Dr Dimitrij Rupel,

the President of the European Parliament Mr Hans-Gert Pöttering,

European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture, Youth Mr Ján

European Commissioner for Science and Research Dr Janez Potočnik,

Minister of European Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mr Frans Timmermans.

According to Ferrero-Waldner, the European Commission is determined to give cultural activities a higher profile in the EU's external relations, and to promote cultural aspects in all EU policies. The EU's work in this area is still in its early stage, but the commission is fully committed to putting culture at the heart of the EU's external relations, she affirmed.

Gijs de Vries, EU anti-terrorism coordinator, meanwhile said that artists, scientists and other representatives of the civil society can surpass governments' policies and contribute to intercultural dialogue in the best possible way.

The programm included: Workshop 2: The Mediterranean
"Although Euromed is a construct referring to the interest and intention
of the EU to create regional cooperation and development with
its Mediterranean neighbours, the reality seems to be different. On
the one hand, there are bilaterally intense relations between Southern
European countries (Spain, France and Italy) and Northern
African countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya) recalling
the colonial past; on the other hand, there is constant dissent and
conflict in the Eastern part of the region (Israel-Palestine, Syria-
Lebanon, Cyprus problem). The physical presence of the global super-
power, the US, in the region serves to complete this picture.
What is to be done to make the EU a major player in the region?
Here, the role of cultural action in the EU’s external policy-making
is becoming essential. The question is not only exploring cultural
instruments to support external policy but also to make culture an
integral part of it."
The event, held as part of the EU enlargement policy, is meant to kick off the process of collecting donations from private and public sources.
The initiative is proof of constant EU efforts to preserve cultural monuments of major importance and to "build bridges between different ethnic and religious communities within and among the countries in the region, thereby encouraging reconciliation, cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue," Figel said.

"The role of active citizenship in bringing together people of different faiths will be discussed on Wednesday 14 May in the third Brussels Debate organised in the framework of the 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The debate entitled “New horizons: active citizenship to bridge inter-religious divides" has been prepared by the European Commission in cooperation with the European Policy Centre. Mario Mauro, Vice-President of the European Parliament, will wrap up the Debate. Ján Figel’, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, and Mario Mauro, Vice-President of the European Parliament, will discuss with Nadine Iarchy, European Vice-Chair of the International Council of Jewish Women, and Imam Dr Abduljalil Sajid, Chairman of the Muslim Council for Religious and Racial Harmony UK"

"UGANDANS have been advised to adopt a more dynamic cultural dialogue and respect different cultures.
The head of the European Union (EU) delegation to Uganda, Vincent De Visscher, said the Government and the cultural institutions were willing to promote intercultural dialogue that reinforces peace and unity in the country.
The envoy was speaking at a cocktail at his residence in commemoration of the Europe Day on Friday.
"It is by pulling resources and building closer ties within Europe that we unified our continent in peace, bringing freedom, security and prosperity to our citizens," De Visscher said.

based on force and imposition

On 2008 April 10, among others Federico Mayor, Khatami, Rabbi Arthur Schneier, HRH Prince El Hassan Bin Talal signed or adhered the "Declaration of Montserrat".
It states
"Based on our common humanity, common vision
and the shared values of fraternity, human solidarity and love, religions should
never again be the origin of confrontation but of conciliation.
The dramatic and endless conflicts in the Middle East, as well as recent tragic
developments in other parts of the world, require solutions prompted by the
awareness, commitment and involvement of religious leaders and civil society,
which must urge political will and action to the decision-makers.(...)"

"As stated in the Alliance of Civilizations Report and others we must enhance
efforts to bridge the divides between religions and cultures through dialogue and
concrete action because religions and cultures are intertwined. We must overcome
the misperceptions, stereotypes, biased language and concepts reproduced by the
media and frequently echoed by irresponsible leadership. Religions must stay
together to co-exist harmonically and work jointly to build a common future.
We must challenge attitudes that spread the appearance of links between religion and violence, extremism and even terrorism."

"In this context, there is a most urgent need to promote action which can
counteract the present situation and trends, based on force and imposition.
We must encourage action–oriented behaviours and attitudes, and widely spread
knowledge on the real root causes of the conflicts –including, when appropriate,
the misuse of religions and ideologies. We must provide possible solutions to build
peace in the minds of people, particularly in the minds of social and political
actors as well as the mass media."
"We invite all cultural expressions to participate in the building of and
international architecture through intercultural dialogue which shall strengthen a
shared culture of peace. We call upon media to contribute to avoid the wide dissemination of stereotypes and biased images, and to promote better understanding between different
cultures and religions."

whole declaration:

By the way Santa Maria de Montserrat
is a Benedictine abbey located in the Montserrat mountain, in Monistrol de Montserrat, in Catalonia. It hosts Virgin of Montserrat, one of the black Madonnas of Europe, hence its familiar Catalan name, la Moreneta ("The little dark-skinned one"). Believed by some to have been carved in Jerusalem in the early days of the church. Legend has it that the Benedictine monks could not move the statue to construct their monastery, choosing to instead build around it. Upon his recovery from battle wounds, Ignatius of Loyola visited the Benedictine monastery of Montserrat (March 25, 1522), where he hung his military accoutrements before the image. Then he led a period of asceticism before later founding the Society of Jesus.

"Well, there ain't no luck
In these loaded dice
But baby if you give me just one more try
We can pack up our old dreams
And our old lives
We'll find a place where the sun still shines
And I will love you, baby - Always
And I'll be there forever and a day - Always
I'll be there till the stars don't shine
Till the heavens burst and
The words don't rhyme"

Solana: ‘Israel will always be a key strategic partner for the EU’

The State of Israel: Inspired by European thinkers or by God? After Solana it's inspired by the first.
"But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things." Daniel 11,38 KGV

"In an interview with the European Jewish Press, Javier Solana stressed that this week’s celebration of the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the State of Israel "marks the realization of an old dream that was inspired by European ideas and thinkers from Europe." "I express my warmest congratulations to the Israeli leaders and the people of Israel on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the State of Israel. This landmark anniversary honours the ideals of the fathers of your nation," Javier Solana said in the interview with EJP.

Underlining the importance that the European Union attaches to its relations with Israel, Solana added: "I am well aware of the traditional links, the cultural and human values, and the economic and security interests that Europe shares with Israel."
Israel and the European Community first established contractual relations in 1975 by signing a cooperation agreement. Then on the basis of the 1994 Essen EU Council conclusions, which gave Israel privileged status vis-à-vis the EU, the EU concluded an Association Agreement and developed relations even further in the context of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
The ‘Action Plan’ signed in 2005 in the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) takes this process still further by setting out in more detail a comprehensive set of jointly developed priorities.
"All this clearly presents a concrete opportunity to continue our ongoing dialogue and also to seek ways to further improve our bilateral relations," Solana said.
The EU diplomat, who made several trips to the Middle East in the last months, also stressed that Israel and the Palestinians should not lose sight of the importance of reaching a peace agreement by the end of 2008.
"Negotiations on final status issues are taking place for the first time since the year 2000...This remains a historic opportunity for peace, it should not be wasted," Solana added."
and from an Interview 23.04.2008 with Jerusalem Post (link):
"It is true that the driving force behind European integration from its very beginning was a clear desire of the then European leaders to overcome old differences and assure a peaceful development of Europe for future generations of our continent. This idea of peace is still very much relevant today - but not only for us, Europeans - it represents a condition sine qua non for the development and a successful future of all the peoples of the Middle Eastern region.
As The High Representative of the European Union for the Common Foreign and Security Policy,
both in my EU capacity and within the framework of the international Quartet, I strongly and
consistently keep advocating a comprehensive and peaceful solution to the Israeli-Arab conflict in general and Israeli-Palestinian conflict in particular. It is indeed a strategic priority for the European Union...."

"Do you as EU High Representative see it as part of your agenda to promote a Free Trade Area or other economic cooperation between Israel and its Arab neighbors?

It was our own European experience which led us to launching the Barcelona process in 1995 and offering our Mediterranean partners, including Israel, a much needed multilateral approach. The European Neighborhood Policy was designed later to develop the Barcelona process and assists us further in this effort. I can just confirm that Israel plays a very important role in this Partnership, where our main objective is to create a common area of peace, stability and prosperity, including the creation of a Free Trade Area by 2010...."
"We can witness that the European Union is taking this responsibility seriously, for instance through our many European Security and Defense Policy missions, of which the first two operate in the Middle East." (farmer: "or God of forces?")
"Today we are trying to build a new world"
